Tips on Writing and Publishing

Write, write, write!

Show your work to others and learn to handle feedback and critique.

Become your own “inner critic” and learn what is good and bad about your work.

Work out what your area of interest is: genre fiction, literary fiction, poetry.

Build friendships with other writers in your area of interest. Even the biggest names are very approachable.

Don’t stick within your area of interest… stretch your boundaries and write different stuff.

Meet with other writers to share material and experiences… a writing group is ideal.

Read widely, whatever you enjoy, and especially the work of new and up-and-coming writers you can talk to.

Get to know the publishing industry. It isn’t a lottery, or a rejection machine… it is a business.

Keep in touch with your readers, when you develop an audience. Social media has so much potential.
